Christmas Jerseys: Ordering Holiday Kit That Arrives in Time
Christmas kit has one hard constraint that no design decision can fix: it has to arrive before Christmas. Custom garments are made after you order them, so the deadline is real and it is earlier than most people assume.
Start with the dates, then the design.
The last safe order date
The arithmetic on a made-to-order garment:
- Production: 5 to 9 business days
- US transit: 7 to 10 business days
- Total: 12 to 19 business days, which is roughly three to four calendar weeks
Working back from December 25, that puts the last comfortable order date in late November. Order by the end of November and you are inside the estimate with room to spare. Order in the first week of December and you are relying on the fast end of both ranges landing.
December is also the worst month of the year for carrier delays, which is exactly when the transit estimate is least reliable. The buffer is not optional in December, it is the whole plan.
If you are ordering for a team holiday party or a December game rather than for the 25th, work back from that date the same way.
Designing something worn more than once
The reason most novelty holiday kit is worn once is that it is only a holiday garment. The versions that last keep the team’s identity and add a seasonal treatment rather than replacing everything with snowflakes.
What works:
- Team colors first. If your colors are green and white, or red and white, you are already at a holiday palette without doing anything.
- Seasonal texture, not seasonal cartoon. A knit-pattern or fair-isle style treatment reads as festive and still looks like a jersey.
- One holiday element. A sleeve detail, a back-neck mark, or a single motif. Not a full-body scene.
- Player names and numbers as normal. This is what makes it a team garment rather than a novelty shirt.
The deliberately loud version has its place too. If the point is a team party and everyone is in on the joke, the full ugly-sweater treatment is fine, and it is arguably the one time an unreadable design does not matter.
Which garment to pick
For December, the answer is usually not a jersey.
- Hoodies and sweatshirts are the most-worn holiday gift by a wide margin, because they get used all winter. See custom pullover hoodies.
- Beanies are the cheapest per person, they are one size, and they solve the sizing problem entirely. See custom beanies.
- Jerseys work for a themed December game or a party, less so as a winter gift.
- Joggers pair with a hoodie to make a set, which is the standard end-of-season team gift. See fleece joggers.
The gift sizing problem
Buying custom apparel as a gift means guessing a size for someone who cannot be measured without spoiling the surprise, and made-to-order items cannot be exchanged for a different size afterwards. That combination catches people out every December.
Three ways around it:
- Buy one-size items. A beanie fits everyone. This is why headwear is the safest custom gift there is.
- Measure a garment they already own. Lay a hoodie they wear flat, measure it chest and length, and compare those numbers with the Size Chart tab. Far more reliable than guessing a letter size.
- Size up on outerwear. A slightly roomy hoodie is worn. A tight one is not.
Team gift orders
For an end-of-season gift for a roster, the practical advantages are that there is no minimum, no per-name charge and no upcharge on larger sizes, so a twenty-person order with twenty different names costs the same per piece as twenty identical ones.
Collect sizes in November, not December. The order cannot start until the last person has replied, and there is always a last person.
Frequently asked questions
When is the last day to order for Christmas? Late November is the last comfortable date. Production is 5 to 9 business days plus 7 to 10 business days US transit, which is three to four calendar weeks, and December carrier delays make the buffer essential.
Can I cancel if I change my mind? Within 24 hours of ordering, yes, for a full refund. After that the item has entered production and cannot be canceled or modified, because it is being made specifically for that order.
What is the safest custom gift if I do not know their size? A beanie or a snapback. Both are one size and adjust or stretch to fit most adults, which removes the sizing risk entirely.
Will a holiday design look cheap? It depends entirely on restraint. Team colors with one seasonal element reads well and gets worn again. A full-body holiday scene is a novelty garment, which is fine if that is what you want.
Is there a minimum for a team gift order? No. One piece or forty costs the same per piece, and every one can carry a different name and number at no extra charge.
